  • 1990s: Planet K was established in Austin and San Antonio, offering Central Texas' best selection of counter-culture-themed products.
  • Geographic expansion: The chain eventually grew beyond its roots, opening stores in San Marcos, New Braunfels, and beyond.
  • Murals: In the tradition of "keeping Austin weird," from 1990 Planet K began adorning its store exteriors with large, artistic murals due to the belief that art should be public and available to all. These public murals became a signature part of Planet K's identity.
  • Community engagement: Throughout its history, Planet K has supported local charities, From Austin and San Antonio Pets Alive! to local food banks. 
  • Fight the Power: Throughout the years Planet K has faced countless struggles against city ordinances, local politics, legal obstacles and more. We are determined to continue serving our community and preserve the legacy of what Austin is all about.
