The Original Austin Smoke + Gift Shop

  • 1990s: Planet K was established in Austin and San Antonio, offering a diverse array of counter-culture-themed products.
  • Geographic expansion: The chain eventually grew beyond its roots, opening stores in San Marcos, New Braunfels, and beyond.
  • Murals: In the tradition of "keeping Austin weird," the brand began adorning its store exteriors with large, artistic murals. These art displays became a signature part of the company's identity.
  • Community engagement: Throughout its history, Planet K has supported local charities, including Austin Pets Alive and the San Antonio Food Bank. 
  • Battling the Man: Throughout the years Planet K has faced countless struggles against city ordinances, local politics, legal obstacles and more. We are determined to continue serving our community and do whatever it takes to preserve the legacy of what Austin is all about.
